  • Product Description

Tristan Marler the multi-disciplinary artist behind Manawa Tapu, specializes in Tā Moko and traditional Maori wood carving, while his painting and printmaking blend cultural heritage with contemporary flair. His aim is to preserve and perpetuate traditional Maori arts.

The 'Lovebirds' series is an exploration of erotica through the use of Kōwhaiwhai patterns.

His work embodies the rich cultural heritage and spiritual beliefs of New Zealand's indigenous people. It uniquely incorporates sexuality into its designs, symbolizing the connection between humanity and the sacred land, or "whenua". Despite challenges from European influence in the 19th century, Māori art adapted, preserving its essence through subtle symbolism and hidden meanings. This integration of sensuality in art celebrates life's beauty and cultural diversity, reminding us of the interconnectedness of humanity, land, and spirituality.

Moemoea comes as a framed print and is copy 1/100
